About a year ago, I was chatting with co-worker Scott Herrett, Torry resident and Just Transition organiser for Friends of the Earth Scotland.\u00a0 We\u2019re Both inspired by the 1970s play <em>The Cheviot, The Stag, The Black Black Oil, <\/em>the legendary piece of Scottish theatre tells the story of the exploitation of Scottish lands, waters and people over the centuries. The similarity in what has been happening in Torry is, of course, not lost on anyone.\u00a0<\/p><p>The list of those making a play for Torry goes on, so, we thought, could we make <em>A Play For Torry?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8657261 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"8657261\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7bf4c4e e-grid e-con-full e-con e-child\" data-id=\"7bf4c4e\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-736fef1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"736fef1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>A Play for Torry:<\/strong><\/p><p>So here we are, built from the voices, stories, and experiences of the Torry people, through interviews, music, and poetry, <em>A Play for Torry<\/em>, is a community-based theatre project that celebrates the land and the resistance of Torry, past and present and future. We\u2019ll explore Torry\u2019s history and current battles: from fishing and oil to RAAC and the park and it\u2019ll be fun.<\/p><p>This is your story &#8211; and we invite you to be part of telling it.<\/p><p><strong>What have we been up to?<\/strong><\/p><p>In the spring, we ran a writing and poetry workshop at Tullos &#8211; collectively producing poetry and writing. Some quite astounding poetic work came from this- and we made a zine \u2018artefact\u2019 of the poetry from this workshop. I\u2019ve been driving the project forward with Scott Herrett, Torry resident project Exec Producer. The brilliant Nathaniel Campbell-Scott-Howells, FoSFP campaigner and Park outdoor Classroom co-ordinator is our Community Producer and the extremely talented Aberdeen local writers, Mae Diansagu and Shane Strachan are the script co-writers.
